A typical inflatable life raft is made of rubber nylon cloth, folded and stored in a fiberglass cylinder, and placed on a raft frame on the deck side.

Inflatable life rafts have one entrance outside the head and one entrance outside the tail. One entrance should be equipped with a raft climbing platform, while the other entrance should be equipped with a raft climbing ladder and towing equipment. The raft climbing platform and ladder are used for drowning personnel to climb the raft, and handropes are set along the periphery and inside of the raft body for drowning personnel to climb.

The gas cylinder of inflatable life raft inflation system usually adopts compressed carbon dioxide steel cylinder. When the ambient temperature is between 18 ℃ and 20 ℃, within 1 min, and when the ambient temperature is -30 ℃, within 3 min, the capacity of the gas cylinder is enough to inflate the inflatable life raft. The gas cylinder inflation device is connected to the head cable of the life raft. As the head cable is securely tied to the ship during storage, when the life raft detaches from the ship, whether relying on human force or buoyancy, the head cable can be pulled to open the inflation device and inflate the life raft.

Inflatable life rafts should be equipped with various accessories and supplies, including knives for cutting connecting cables, sea anchors, paddles, whistles, rocket parachute flame signals, radar reflectors or radar responders, rations, fresh water, insulation equipment, etc.

The total mass of inflatable liferafts, their containers, and accessories shall not exceed 185kg, except for liferafts that require the use of landing equipment (such as a raft hanger) for landing or liferafts that are not intended to be easily transferred from one side to the other.
